Twisted goof

d'oh

twisted knitting in the round I started making this pretty lace capelet out of some lovely light blue cashmere yarn that I won at an auction last year. It's a VERY simple pattern - and I am/was excited to see how it would turn out.

I had just finished the 2nd round of lace stitches when I noticed that the knitting was a bit... twisted. DAMNIT. Whenever you join a piece of knitting in the round the instructions always say something like this "Place marker and join, being careful not to twist cast on edge." And what do I do??? I twisted the cast on edge. And now I have to frog the whole thing and try again.

argh.

*sigh*

Bamboozled Headband

quick cable project

Bamboozled headband I needed a bit of a break from Needle felting all those letters, so I found a nice quick cable project on Ravelry.com and worked on it this week.

I really like that this headband tapers at each end so that you don't have a huge bulk of fabric at the back of your head. I made a few modifications to the pattern -- mainly I knit it on size 7 needles rather than 6 (I couldn't find my 6's) so I shortened some of the cable twists so that the headband wouldn't be too long. I think it turned out pretty nicely. I think I may knit this project again with some finger-weight yarn to make a thin headband... or maybe I'll modify the pattern a bunch to add some more cableing in the center.... we shall see. I like playing with cables.

  • the materials:
    • size 7 needles
    • 1 ball worsted weight yarn (I used some left-over Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Loden)
    • Cable needle

My Ravelry Addiction

be careful, you'll get addicted too

A couple months ago, Tom, one of my co-workers asked if I'd heard of this "ravelry thing" - he'd seen it on boingboing tv. I checked it out, signed up to be a beta tester, and a few weeks later I got an invite.

Now I'm completely addicted.

So... What is Ravelry.com? - basically its a way to keep track of all your knitting and crochet projects: stuff you've made, stuff you've started, stuff you'd like to make, yarn you've stashed, books you own, and all that stuff.

Everything's all connected too -- so you can see how other people's attempts at the same pattern have turned out. You can find new patterns you'd like to make. You can list your own patterns. You can figure out what to do with all that yarn you have stashed (ahem, Sam). And you can keep it all organized.

I got Liz hoooked on Ravelry, too. I think the waiting list is moving pretty quickly now too - as it only took her a week or so to get an invite. So put your email address on the waiting list! It's a very cool knitting community, I'm excited to see how it develops.
